Holy Porgs! Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi may be polarizing fans across the internet, but you can’t deny its popularity, as audiences return for repeat viewings to make it the #1 box office hit of 2017.
Oh, and by the way, VanArts has alumni who worked on it! Here are their stories…
Daniel Gonzalez Solozabal, a Senior Compositor at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), graduated from our Visual Effects program in 2009 and has since worked at studios including Rhythm & Hues, MPC, Double Negative and WETA Digital. His feature film credits include Pirates of the Carribean, Life of Pi, The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, Jurassic World, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnorak, Rogue One, The Force Awakens, and Steven Spielberg’s next movie Ready Player One.
Daniel Finnegan, an FX Technical Director at ILM, graduated from Visual Effects in 2012 and was immediately hired at Zoic Studios right here in Vancouver. Since that first gig, Daniel has also worked at Method Studios and Sony Pictures Imageworks before moving to ILM Vancouver. His feature film credits include The Maze Runner, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Kong: Skull Island, the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The Force Awakens, and of course, The Last Jedi.
2013 VFX graduate Rohit Nayak, from India, is an award-winning Digital Matte Painter, Environment Artist and TD at ILM. His previous work at MPC and Digital Domain has built up his credit list which includes The Amazing Spider Man 2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Fast & Furious 7, Tomorrowland, The Force Awakens, Rogue One and many others.
